Counseling Embodied hosted its first lecture event on January 23! Here are some key take-aways from the topic, Relationship with Self.
The relationship with self is the most important relationship because it (1) is life long, (2) is constantly evolving, (3) affects how we show up to all other relationships.
This relationship begins without us even knowing and continues to form throughout our life. Most people do not think about the relationship they have with themselves until they are forced to.
Ways that we can tell how the relationship is doing:
How we think or talk to ourselves
What is it like when we are alone, do we need distractions or stimulation
How we respond to the human experience: emotions, mood changes, stress
Are we valued and considered in our other relationships
Here are some ways that we can invest in the relationship with self!
o The 3 S’s! Self Care, Self Compassion, Self Love
o Find ways to be alone and sit with what comes up
o If need be, work with a coach or therapist to address the relationship
o Seek out peace, fulfillment, joy, passion
o Learn how to meet your needs
o Practice mindfulness
